On May 4th, 1886, an unknown person threw a dynamite bomb at the police as they acted to disperse a labor demonstration in support of an eight-hour work day. The bomb blast and ensuing retaliatory gunfire caused the deaths of seven police officers and at least four civilians, wounding dozens of others. Who of the suspects do you think threw the bomb?

• Rudolph Schnaubelt, the detectives' lead suspect and identified by a state witness in court. He fled to London and disclaimed all responsibility.2
• George Schwab, a German shoemaker blamed by anarchist Carl Nold, but no proof emerged.2
• George Meng, a German anarchist and teamster, identified by his granddaughter, who claimed her mother her that her father was the bomber.1
• An agent provcateur, unknown, but it was believed by activist Albert Parsons that the bomber was a member of the police trying to undermine the labor movement.
• A disgruntled worker, seeking revenge against brutal police officers.1
• Klemana Schuetz, claimed to be the bomber by New York anarchist and fraudster Franz Mayhoff that he had admitted to it.
• Reinold "Big" Krueger, killed by police either in the immediate aftermath of the bombing or the next day, named as a suspect.
• A mysterious outsider, interested in the Chicago labor situation in a saloon in Indianapolis the day before the bombing, who pointed to his satchel and said, "You will hear of some trouble there very soon."2
